Excellent food and service -- the best in Cambria. The tasting menu was superb. The wine pairing was spot on. Excellent food, good ambience. The service was perfect with the waitress never intruding and making good suggestions. Absolutely decadent desserts. Could not recommend this highly enough.

Where are you ZAGAT?. What a lovely surprise after an interesting visit to the Hurst Castle - the dream house of William Randolph Hurst nearby! Our dining experience in this intimate and very cosy place was absolutely fabulous! The food was imaginative and very well prepared and service was impeccable. I would recommend The Black Cat bistro any time. Among several other good food places in Cambria, we are going back to Black Cat for our farewell meal before leaving for San Francisco tomorrow.

Perfect Dining Experience, Exceeded Expectations. We held our wedding rehearsal dinner here in September and it was amazing. We had visited several restaurants from Paso Robles to Cambria to Morro Bay for our rehearsal dinner spot and Black Cat blew away the competition. In fact, Black Cat was our last hope. Other restaurants were so uninspiring we considered holding our rehearsal dinner a few days early where we live in L.A. All of our guests were impressed with the menu, the friendly staff, and the cozy ambience. The staff had lit candles everywhere, turned the lights down, and let us play our own music over their system. They even made a personalized menu with our names on them for each place setting. The bar was never without champagne which was ready for our guests to take as they pleased. They served excellent wine, beer, and specialty drinks. Service was prompt from the amazing appetizers to dessert, which couldn't have been easy to serve 52 people at essentially the same time. The presentation was gorgeous and the whole event was sheer elegance without being stuffy. The menu was creative (fig crostini, oven roasted celery root & pear soup, sauteed shrimp & beet gnocchi, caramelized apple stuffed breast of pheasant to name a few dishes). Even the children's menu was hip but kid friendly. People were actually satisfied, no one left hungry.

Black Cat has a great space with a deck, perfect for mingling. The back room is separate from the rest of the group but it worked out well for the families with kids. The price was comparable or less than many of the other places we checked out. We look forward to visiting again the next time we head up the coast.

Favorite Cambria Restaurant. Being a San Francisco native, restaurant hopping is what I do in every city I visit. Our north coast visit was of course, Black Cat Bistro, an elegantly hip excursion that met all expectations. I immediately checked out the wine list to see how it measured up. I was at once at home with sought after wines from all regions. am one for sitting at the bar where I can take in all of the hustle-bustle of restaurant activity, In BlackCat, sitting at the "bar" is NOT a "bar" it is a dining experience.

Being a cozy 40something seat restaurant it was everything I love about a chef/owner boutique style destination. All of the servers, the bus boy, the kitchen, the owner, just everyone, was engaging, and hospitable.

We, mom and I, began our dinner with 4 apps. All of which were served to perfection. The gnocchi was perfect! And the sauce and the prawns were so complimentary. At the satisfaction of the appetizers, we ventured further into entrees. We asked the other patrons at the bar who were seriously going to town with the menu. By the time the evening was done I believe every person at the bar had enjoyed every item on the menu. It was such a delight to sit among people who were thoroughly enjoying themselves.

The entrees that stuck with me are the salmon, the Ahi, the pork tenderloin and the pheasant. The pork tenderloin was heaven on a plate, I had to refrain from licking the sauce... seriously!

What I loved most was the camaraderie of the staff and patrons. As folks were leaving the dining room, thankyous and compliments flowed through the room.

It was a joyful evening. I left with new knowledge about the wineries to visit in the area, new contacts that were never expected and a culinary experience that matches my favorite in SF. I have visited all of the Central Coast fine ding spots, every single one. What I truly enjoy about Black Cat is that it IS truly engaging on every levels. Oh, and the homemade S'mores - hello lovey!!!
