In Short – Designed like an Italian villa, with handcrafted wood throughout, a gourmet kitchen and gorgeous terraces, this warm, private home caters to couples and small wedding parties. In the main house, an elaborate entertainment room features a 70-inch big screen TV, leather loungers and a regulation-size billiards table. There's also one upstairs room for guests. Outside, two more rooms feature private entrances, balconies and easy access to the signature spot of the property: a raised hot tub, firepit and small pool that seemingly spills into infinity.

They are defiantly not the Hospitality Hosts!

by CLara

This note is in regards to the owner Patti, not her husband Charlie; she should not be in the wedding or event business! I attended my cousins wedding this last weekend and was not impressed. I also was the florist for the wedding and right off she was not friendly and was demanding. She abruptly told me she was the “Owner” and how long was I going to be parked there. We arrived at 1:30 and the guest would not be arriving until after 3:00 so it was not like we were in the way. She then went off and was not seen again until I arrived back at the wedding in attendance. Things were flowing according to the plan but with tension coming from all aspects such as bridesmaids, groomsmen and the wedding coordinator Jen, which by the way was wonderful and put up with a lot from Patti. Patti walked around with an apron on like she was hired help with a frown on her face at all times. People would ask “who is that lady” and when told she was the owner nobody could believe it! Later in the evening it turned chilly and when asked to turn on the gas fire pit her husband came over without a problem and turned it on. We later learned Patti told the brides parents that because the fire pit was turned on that would be an extra $75.00 charge. Wow! With my past experience with either working an event or attending an event, the host is usually dressed according to the event attire and making sure everyone is enjoying the evening and making you feel comfortable as if it were your home, and accommodating guests whether it is to answer a question, tending to their needs or turning on heaters if they were cold with a SMILE. The evening just got worse as the night went on and too much to mention. I was so sad for our family who had to deal with her that evening and the next day. The Bride and Groom enjoyed “their day” and made it a fun night for all regardless of the host who tried to ruin their day. Shame on you Patti!

Some pretty significant glitches...

by HookailoWedding

I waited two weeks to write this review of the wedding venue, so I'd cool off a bit from the things that went wrong - that shouldn't have. Every wedding has a few glitches, but your event hostess should not be the cause of them, and should be there to help fix them. Sadly, this was not the case. The first major glitch was a phone call four days before the wedding, canceling the use of the rooms at their bed and breakfast, and saying the newly weds could stay at the nearby La Quinta Hotel, instead. The owner had a death in the family, and while we sympathize with her loss, we could not understand how this changed the availability of the room! A wedding night in a hotel, with all the other guests, is NOT the same as a night in a fairytale setting (which this site is). Then there were a couple of problems at the event, and since the owner was not there to resolve them, an event planner was left to wing it. The most major was when it came time to sit down to dinner - no sweetheart table! And the event planner seemed unwilling to do anything to fix it. The DJ had to convince her to go find a table. So while the other guests were seated and waiting, the bride and groom were left standing awkwardly, as tables were moved to re-arrange things, and a table was set. It was not done graciously, or with apologies to the couple, but treated as an imposition. That and the rooms being revoked from the couple just never should have happened. Inexcusable. The other little glitches (bartender MIA at times, etc.,) we could have lived with, and it wouldn't have been a big deal. But it still remains to be seen (two weeks later) if the owner will compensate the couple with a partial refund for the other problems - especially the rooms. I'll come back and update that outcome, but until then, we wouldn't recommend this venue. Not for such an important day, and not when you are really on the hosts to resolve problems - not create them. That's too bad, because it really is a stunningly beautiful site.

  • Pros: Beautiful venue, incredible views
  • Cons: Last minute changes/flaws that shouldn't have been

Ruined our wedding

by HostenWedding

My fiancé and I recently decided to have our wedding at the Villa de Buena Vista, after a few nice preliminary meetings with the owner. Once the contract was signed and they had our money, everything changed. I’ve never dealt with anyone who so obviously does not wish to have customers.

After choosing the location we first met with local vendors (florist, cake, DJ, photographer, etc.). Each vendor we met with expressed surprise when we told them the wedding would be at the Villa de Buena Vista and they were reluctant to take the job. One even shared with me the evidence she had found online of more than one bride who had made complaints against the Villa de Buena Vista for things like overcharging and failure to provide the services in the wedding contract.

Since we had already paid for the site we decided to stick it out. Boy was that a bad decision. When we would arrange to meet with vendors at the Villa, the owner would actually call the vendor to cancel our meeting, and would act like we hadn’t properly cleared the meeting with her, despite the fact that I had the email communications to prove we had.

On the day of the wedding the owner was openly angry and rude for no reason whatsoever. Our guests would repeatedly ask us what was wrong because of all the drama. Instead of being a leisurely, beautiful day there was constant tension and conflict between the property owner and our guests. When guests would ask when they could find the bathroom, the owner would give them a long list of rules about the property and accuse them of trespassing in their home, never actually answering their simple question. At one point during the reception the owner stormed through the tables during the best man’s toast…we even have this part of video and should post online.

After the wedding we found our credit card vastly overcharged and we had to open a dispute with the credit card company to get our money back. I would strongly advise anyone considering a Paso Robles wedding to look elsewhere and to run, not walk, away from the Villa de Buena Vista.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Owner is abusive, rude and unprofessional
