I've been going to Mannikins for several years. I regularly need to have pants hemmed and Mannikins is the place for me! Its fast, convenient, and reasonably priced!
This is the only place in town that I
trust for ALL of my tailoring. I've been going for a couple years now. The owner is very friendly, knowledgable & easy to work with. She's super patient (a necessity w/ me:) anytime I need a jacket, shirt or jeans altered ... This is the spot.
I love that the shop in downtown too!
I went to this place on a recommendation from Banana Republic I was so pleased with their work I would highly recommend them. The turnaround time was very quick and the work impeccable.
Rude.
If there was one thing I learned today it was ALWAYS ask the price before agreeing to let someone alter my clothes. After hearing that Manikins was the place in SLO for alterations, I was very disappointed when I picked my bridesmaids dress. When I originally walked into Manikins Tailor, Catherine Doyles (owner) seemed very cheerful. I had many items that needed to get altered (jeans, dresses, and a shirt), however I also had a priority list of what items needed fixing first. The bridesmaids dress was first on my list. When I simply asked her how much it was for the alteration with original hem, the price made me change my mind. Once I said “No thanks, I'll just do this dress". Catherine's attitude changed and was very negative. She seemed appalled that I refused to pay her price. I had read the previous reviews about a bridesmaids dress and the average was around $50, so I was gauging my prices around that, give or take $15.
While she was marking where my dress hem line she stated, "Well if you didn’t’ like the price of the jeans you are not going to like this". I was shocked that someone in the customer service industry would tell me that and though my intuition told me I shouldn't have let her make alterations but I did because the dress was necessary for the upcoming wedding I was in. I didn't ask the price, however she also didn't tell me. When I went to get my dress she charged me $90.00 for a new hemline and one dart. She looked at me very rudely when I repeated the price. Normally, the price does not bother me if it is quality and the service is exceptional. However, this store and the owner Catherine possessed neither. Her professionalism is as nonexistent as her customer service skills. I will never to back to this alterations store nor would I recommend them.
Great seamstress and friendly. I just picked up four pair of yoga pants that I needed hemmed. The pants were done fast and turned out perfect length wise. I was hesistant because of the lack of reviews but decided to try the place out anyway. I was pleasantly surprised by how busy the place was during the week and how fast my items were ready for pickup. I know that each experience is different but I was very satisfied with mine. The owner goes above and beyond to ensure satisfaction and is happy to talk with you when time permits. Very friendly and knowledgeable about other local businesses (a fellow yoga lover!).
RUDE people!.
Unfortunately the woman who works there is a very angry and RUDE person. Not to mention that it too 10 days for my jeans to get hemmed!! Plus she only hemmed one side of my blouse and when it didnt look right, she decided not to do the other side?? Thanks a lot!
I do NOT recommend doing business here!
BEST SERVICE IN TOWN!.
My experience was entirely positive. The price was cheaper than the other shop I took it to, the work was done WAY faster, and the owner was much more educated.
I won't go anywhere else in town!
AMAZING TAILOR THAT CAN DO ANYTHING!!.
Catherine is absolutely fantastic! I have always been hesitant to bring my things into a tailor, however, my roommate introduced me to this amazing shop two years ago and I have been coming back with a handful of clothes every month. She works wonders with the items I have brought in! I went through my closet and had Catherine alter pants to shorts; dresses to tanks and my old clothes have become my new favorites again. They look absolutely wonderful!
She has even worked with me on specific items by adding certain fabrics to the clothing to make bold pockets, and certain stitching for the hemline. She really works with you and feeds of your creative vibes!
Catherine is very experienced and knows exactly what she is doing! She can fix the unfixable, rework old treasures to look new again, and simply make a shirt or pant fit perfectly again. Many clothes used to sit in my closet untouched because I wasn't able to wear them. They simply didn't fit right or they were snagged or damaged along the way have been revamped back into the exact style I could have ever wanted! She has helped me create old clothing into new styles that are more trendy!
Perfect place for a personal tailor. This place is great! I wouldn't trust anyone else to hem or sew my clothes! Mannikins is very trusting and dependable. I've never been let down before and I've been going here for almost 4 years now. There are always solutions to any problems I've had, whether it be shortening a unique bridesmaide dress, or making a jacket more fitting so I can wear it everyday. When I first moved here I visited a few other places in slo, but I immediately became attached to Mannikins because of the great customer service and friendly, welcoming attitude. Not to mention how professional and efficient they are, most of my clothes were done early! Thank you & keep up the good work!!
