Great find In old San Luis Obispo. We just had dinner at Cafe Roma last night as this restaurant was recommended to me by a friend in San Francisco. It was a little hard to find and we were surprised to see such a nice looking restaurant in a railroad parking lot in San Luis Obispo. We were promptly seated on a patio in front where we started looking at the menu. It has a mix of Italian foods with some non Italian items (filet mignon and escargots) but the prices were very reasonable as well as the wine list. We enjoyed a few appetizers and I enjoyed the "special" of lamb chops with a brandy reduction. Very Very well done. We enjoyed a bottle of Faust Cabernet at priced closer to retail than what you would expect on a restaurant wine list. We will be back.

Lovely atmosphere, nice decor, mostly gregarious wait help, mediocre food and service. I had never been to Cafe Roma and attended tonight's special celebration where they roll prices back to the 1980 menu. What a great concept, and a great way to win over new diners. Unfortunately, the effort backfired: some of us ordered a special dish and having waited over 30 minutes since the last course, the waiter came and apologized that the kitchen had just run out and we needed to reorder. I've never heard of such a thing: the kitchen ought to have the foresight to announce this earlier ... because of the delay, we had to wait longer for a new order, and service was already slow. When my dish arrived, it was a pretty disappointing meal. Bland pasta, no flavor, NO GARLIC, and I could have done better myself at home... a very disappointing introduction (and farewell, by the way) to Cafe Roma. The protracted dinner was made all the worse by the excuses the waiter offered, "the kitchen is really busy," "they just looked at your order now and so I'm telling you now that we're out of the special," blah, blah, blah. Just get your kitchen organized and then open the doors to discrimating patrons. I won't be back, sorry. Arrivederci, Cafe Roma.
