I first tried this restaurant shortly after their opening. The chef was more focused on trying to be interesting -- that actually served up good food.

Still open for business. Ate there today 2/5/10 with my Son. Their guacamole is always 100% avocados.

Salsa is tasty. Although they have a breakfast menu, they do not open until 11:00. Would be nice if they opened earlier.

Food was good -- but service was poor.. We made reservations for about 15 to sit in the small dining room. Food was very good -- and food was served well. But after food was served, we had no follow-up service. Three people should have had dessert included with their food. But our waitress was assigned to work in a busy area of the restaurant and good not come back to bring desserts, refill drinks, and there was no clean up of table. So service was very poor once food was served. We will not return as a group.

Fast, friendly and great for families.. After reading the other reviews, I had to chime in. We live in SLO and just love Vallarta's. We go there frequently with the kids and have a great family dinner out. The food is very reasonably priced for the portions and I think it is some of the best mexican food in town. The service is very fast, which is helpful when dining with kids, and the wait staff have always been very friendly and some of them even helpfully interactive with the children. We usually sit in a booth in the bar area near a window which allows the children to watch what's going on outside while we are waiting. Also a great place to go with friends for margaritas! I definitely recommend it! On the downside, parking can sometimes be a problem on a busy night.
