Established in 1989, when the area was still in its adolescent stages of wine production, Tablas eschewed the movement towards big, New World zins and cabs, instead producing Rhone-style blends and unusual varietals like mourvedre. The land was chosen for similarity in soil and climate to the French Chateauneuf de Pape region. The red- and brown-hued tasting room consists of two separate coverted office and conference spaces, with three sampling stations. Once very form over function, a complete remodel was completed in early 2007.
