A delightful experience.
I had dinner at El Chorlito earlier this evening and could not have been more pleased. First, Aubrey was so friendly and helpful with her suggestions for my drive north tomorrow – I can’t wait to see the places she told me about.
Her recommendations for dinner were spot on – she pointed out several possibilities, and I chose the Scallops. Fantastic! I am so glad I asked.
The Derby Wine Estates Pinot Noir was a terrific compliment to all the food, and a very nice wine on its own.
Salsa is the bellwether for any Mexican restaurant, and yours is awesome. Fresh and tasty – some of the best I’ve ever had.
I was not expecting much when I pulled in – I really thought I was walking into a divey little roadside café. My expectations were not only exceeded, they were blown out of the water. Thank you Aubrey! And thank you El Chorlito! What a delightful experience.
The best Mexican food in the area..
El Chorlito is a great Mexican restaurant in an area of not-too-good choices. The chips and salsa are fine. The beer and wine only liquor restriction still allows for some pretty good Margaritas using a low-proof version of Tequila.
The menu selections are very extensive, the only weakness, not a lot of seafood items, but enough to satisfy most diners.
Great carnitas, delicious mole sauce, fine chile rellenos and every dish is well-prepared. And top-notch desserts, including a delicious flan and a very big slice of New York style cheesecake. Nice, friendly manager, nice staff, and a great patio for lunch or dinner in summer, or lunch only in winter and fall.
Even the best Mexican cuisine in Cambria is no match for San Simeon's El Chorlito. If you stay in Cambria, make the trip to San Simeon.
